My Worship

Image
Photocredit: Dodji Djibom Behind the Song It's been a while I wrote a groovy song and I wanted a somewhat happy song this time. The chord progression has been laid and some rhythms are now in place and all that done rather effortlessly. I then realized that this sound must bless God and for a day or two I can't put down the right words to the sound. Everything that must honor and bless God acceptably must come from God Himself therefore I needed to trust God for the right words. For those who may not be familiar with the expression "evening sacrifice" as used in the song, it is an expression from Psalms 141 verse 2 " May the lifting of my hands be like the  evening sacrifice" (NIV) The Song Joseph Adegboye · My Worship The Lyrics Verse Let all my worship rise like the evening sacrifice my life being praise in response to your grace Chorus All my life will be worship worship worship giving glory to Jehovah the Alpha and Omega And everything within me sing...

On the Road

Image
Behind the Song Some months back, I saw a video that was shot in India of a man who apparently is injured from what could be a gun shot or a hit-and-run driver. It was a major road. Several people rode by in their cars and bikes, pedestrians also seem to be in a hurry. A few pedestrians stopped to observe.  Nobody moved close. Nobody did much. Only one or two persons waved at vehicles. An empty ambulance was waved but it sadly sped off. At the end it was but a social experiment. What if it was real? Well, he would have bled to death. Few weeks ago, I read of a man who died while waiting to get food on credit. It was on twitter. It was easier for me to get the story as published by "The Street Journal". While people were asking was it true or was it untrue, I remembered the story of the "Good Samaritan". This song is written to prick consciences and to encourage everyone who listens to it to be the "Good Samaritan" Joseph Adegboye · On the Road .  The Lyri...

God Will Do It

Behind the Song Photocredit: Dan Meyers I started making my own demos without proper gears. I still don't have proper gears.  It started off as a challenge I took upon myself from a twitter discussion and I have made and published 10 demos on SoundCloud. All of the vocals were captured using microphones on the laptop, mobile phone or on a earpiece. (Now you know the secret behind the inconsistent vocal sound). Today's post is not really about the demos but about how lacks and needs are essential ingredients for creativity while I tell you the story behind the song "God Himself ". It was the year 2013, the month of March, a Friday (I believe). We were preparing a hall for the wedding reception  together with other friends of the groom, a senior colleague and brother. While we were at it, some other colleagues joined us and on seeing them , I started thinking and shedding tears. I shielded myself cunningly to avoid questions like "is everything okay?". Well, a...

Mask Off

Image
Behind the Song I was thinking about the effects of mass usage of masks due to the Covid-19 pandemic and as an amateur psychologist, I am curious about that effect on behavior. Are we going to see changes in the pattern of behaviors of people or people will remain uninfluenced by the public use of masks?  In African cultures where masquerading is a thing, unnatural abilities are projected to humans who are hidden behind masks and costumes. They often are permitted to freely do some things which they ordinarily would not do. If we all become "Lagbaja" that is, anonymous can we live as expected as when we are known? Evil thrive in secrecy, will this period be an exception?  I believe we all can let go of the masks covering up our shining while we still #MaskUp for the sake of the pandemic without losing ourselves to the lures of secrets and darkness. Joseph Adegboye · Mask Off The Lyrics Verse 1 behind the mask I can be bold but afraid behind the mask I can be tough but ashame...

I Do Things That Bless Lives

This is the first post here. The blog is dedicated to my songwriting activities. Writings are about the motivations and the inspirations for the songs. They will include lyrics and links to audio or video of such songs. Starting, is a song that best describes my motivations and it is a form of my faith declaration. I want my writings to meet needs and they will. I Do things That Bless Lives is a song of affirmation and it will be a blessing to everyone who listens to or sings it. Joseph Adegboye · I Do Things that Bless Lives The Lyrics Verse 1 My tongue is like the pen of a ready writer I look up within to bring down the answer I'm filled with the Spirit, of love and understanding I'm filled with the mind of Christ and I live to do greater works greater works than all that has been done till the world is filled with light the light of God's glory Chorus I do things that bless lives I do things that make men see the Light Verse 2 My mouth like the hug o...
