Behind the Song
The more correct heading here will actually be "Surrounding the Song", but for the culture let's still keep it as "Behind the song".
The song was written in 2006 and was first performed by the Redeemed Christian Fellowship (RCF), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (Lautech) Choir.
This song holds a lot of pleasant memories for me, and lessons too.
I remembered the habit of writing songs for other choristers to sing not simply for that reason but also because I was very shy. I could not imagine myself standing in front of many people to speak not to talk of perform a song. Well the Choir director, a dear sister, won't have it my way. I must stand before the perceptive and sharp eyes of hundreds of students and as if that's not enough, I must sing. I wanted it otherwise, hidden amongst the choristers. "You are a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden", I thought of this in retrospect, however I don't know what my thoughts were but I can remember that I was scared.
Being scared of doing a right thing is not a big deal really, going on to do what one is scared of nonetheless is the mark of courage. I thank God that I was "forced" to sing this song, if I had not, I probably will be more shy than I am today. Everything indeed work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose.
To God's purpose and its numerous benefits is this song calling you. To The Father, it says "Hark, come!"

The Lyrics

Verse 1
I heard a sweet voice saying child come home
to every soul who is far away
listen to the Father's voice saying "child return quickly"
quick, hurry, return to the father
Chorus

Jesus will soon return
quick, hurry, return home
Verse 2
I heard the voice of those saying "Father blow the trumpet"
those who are ready saying "Jesus come quickly"
If Jesus should come are we ready?
If Jesus comes and says "it's time" are you ready?
Vamp
I am expecting you
my child come home
I am longing for you
I am expecting you
my child run home
I am looking out for you
Come home
Come home
Run
