You Don't Care

Image
The cross is the evidence of the ultimate love of God for His creations,  especially man. The song "You Don't Care" is my version of contextualizing a line from the old school song lyrics "Eni ti won tori e na mi, ni n o pada fe"  (Adeolu Akinsanya) translated "the person over whom I was beaten is the one I'm going to marry"  within the love of God portrayed by the passion of the Christ. "You Don't Care" imposed the idiom "I don't care" on the attitude of Jesus to the pain He suffered just because of us. There are three major players in this song: the Pharisees of Jesus' day, Jesus and those who were touched by Jesus. The listener is actively in the last category since the song is written as a narration of someone whom Jesus Christ loves. The Pharisees didn't care about the blind man, the woman caught in adultery nor about the man bedridden for 38 years but they had issues with Jesus' care and love for these

What I Want Said

Behind The Song I started out in 2011 to write a song that will reflect how I will love to be remembered when I die. In a sense, I set out to write my own obituary and also the epitaph. I left the song unfinished. The events of the last two weeks set the mood and the emotional canvass upon which the song can be finished. Three deaths in one week. First was my dad's. Second was a patient who prefers me to anyone else in attending to her venepuncture. Third was a man of God who has impacted me indirectly. So the motivation is there and the morale is high enough to have a song written in honour of the departed souls and for the instruction of the living. Wait a minute, have you ever put your thought to how you will love to be remembered after you are dead? I realized that this line of thoughts are held sacred in several minds and we do not want to talk about death, however it is part of life. It is inevitable. If we will put on the resurrection glory, we must endure the pain of death.

Hope for Non-Singing Songwriters in Africa

This is an unusual blog, it is not following the usual pattern of previous posts. I am sharing a post from my facebook account and I do hope you find it meaningful. I have asked this question many times, since the days of audio cassettes. For every tape I bought there's a ritual:... Posted by Joseph Babatunde Adegboye on  Sunday, July 26, 2020

Behind the Song The more correct heading here will actually be "Surrounding the Song", but for the culture let's still keep it as "Behind the song". The song was written in 2006 and was first performed by the Redeemed Christian Fellowship (RCF), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (Lautech) Choir. This song holds a lot of pleasant memories for me, and lessons too. I remembered the habit of writing songs for other choristers to sing not simply for that reason but also because I was very shy. I could not imagine myself standing in front of many people to speak not to talk of perform a song. Well the Choir director, a dear sister, won't have it my way. I must stand before the perceptive and sharp eyes of hundreds of students and as if that's not enough, I must sing. I wanted it otherwise, hidden amongst the choristers. "You are a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden", I thought of this in retrospect, however I don't know what my thoug

Heaven's Song

Behind the Song Have you ever dreamed of a place and you instinctively know it was heaven? Well, no matter the details of the vision or the imagination, it will still be at best a blind man's description of an elephant. This in essence is what this song is. It was indeed one of those tunes I often wake up with. I honestly have forgotten most of the details of the song except for the tune of the chorus which also is now a little different from what it was. I will never want to be a lazy man who does not roast the prey he gets from hunting, but I must admit that there have been occasions in the past where a lot of tunes have been missed.  Heaven's song was set in reggae style but it is meant to make you think about heaven occasionally. Few weeks ago, a man of God greeted me "Maranatha" and it felt nostalgic. This is not supposed to be so, we must never forget that "Our Lord Comes!" I Can

Behind The Song It was one of those days you wake up with a song on your lips and you know God is encouraging you. This was how this song came about. For the most part the song has to be fleshed out since most of the lyrics were forgotten except the verse. Some details were lost but not the theme. While the song is to my encouragement I want to also use the song for instruction. Philippians 4:13 did not come to us as a tool for motivation just for motivation's sake, considering our usage of the scripture. Read in context, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." does not mean you can literally do everything and anything, it does not mean you are now omnipotent but it does mean that you can bear all things. It means you can endure all things. It means, in the very word of Paul: "Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.  I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every

My Worship

The chord progression has been laid and some rhythms are now in place and all that done rather effortlessly. I then realized that this sound must bless God and for a day or two I can't put down the right words to the sound. Everything that must honor and bless God acceptably must come from God Himself therefore I needed to trust God for the right words. For those who may not be familiar with the expression "evening sacrifice" as used in the song, it is an expression from Psalms 141 verse 2 " May the lifting of my hands be like the  evening sacrifice" (NIV) The Song Joseph Adegboye · My Worship The Lyrics Verse Let all my worship rise like the evening sacrifice my life being praise in response to your grace Chorus All my life will be worship worship worship giving glory to Jehovah the Alpha and Omega And everything within me sing
